Someone in my writing community asked about the biggest “lie” we’ve heard or told ourselves about our writing career. Here is my reply.
The biggest lie? I wouldn’t call it a “lie” per se but rather my own shortsightedness. If I’d known then what I know now… That sort of shortsightedness. I told myself I’d have TIME — time to write, time to publish and market, time to devote to my writing profession. But no, I don’t have time. I’m constantly fighting for time. There is always one thing or another vying for my attention. Family needs, family drama, unexpected sickness, ongoing health problems, life happenings, and now hurricanes, etc etc etc. Inevitably something comes up, whether expected or otherwise. So I need to make the best of today and work while it is still day (John 9:4).
